House day, all these years, has been the most exciting event at school. Every year, with new housemates, we put our heart and soul into every bit of it. No matter the results, we did try our level best. For us 11thies, it was our last go at it but for many, it was a first.
In these past two months, I have seen young Khasians grow and mature with every activity that they take up. May it be wall painting or singing or theater, they were always eager to learn. Those involved in the lighting, the prop making, the costume designing, all departments did a great job.
Our wall painting did take several breaths away. It took a long time and a dedicated team to complete it. Even after constant rejections in the initial stages to hurrying up at the end because the deadline was nearing, the artists of Khasi did not succumb to the pressure and managed to give their best and leave everyone in awe.
The band gave an enthralling performance too after days and weeks of exhausting practice. They blended Bollywood and western music, gave a touch of classical and elevated it with an excellent show of percussions, and displayed the magnificent symphony to the enthusiastic audience
The theater team sincerely attended all workshops and stayed back hours after school to work upon the play.
Even though in the initial days we saw a lot of bickering and quarrels, by the end, the theater team became something more than just a group of children put together to make a play. We became a family.
With the collective efforts of everyone, the theater team too showed a tremendous performance. A shout out to the script writers as well! And warmest thank you to all the teachers for their constant guidance and support.
A special thank you to Sreelekshmi ma’am, our mentor and guide who spent so much time and effort on our play. None of this would have been possible without everyone’s efforts.
We lost, which is okay. We know how much more there is to learn, before we hope to win. The journey though, we all know, was a memorable one. And that is what matters most.
There is learning that we shall all make a note of. House day is always supposed to be a collective effort. The mantle should not always fall on a few selective students alone. There is no one man army. Unless we all work together, the results will not be good enough. Khasi is a house wherein talent flourishes in abundance. We only need to ensure that we consistently work upon our skills, experiment with our limits and boldly take up the challenges ahead. This loss is one of them and we need to overcome it, persevere.
Khasi house is meant to be so much more. This is not the time to be disappointed, it's alright to lose if we timely learn our lessons and make a comeback the next time, which I genuinely believe we will.
So Khasi house, ho jaye?
